The poetic inks of François Cheng
Discover the poetry of François Cheng's calligraphy at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Tours until 7 January 2019.
François Cheng is a writer and a poet born in China, and living in France since 1948. This eminent member of the Académie Française is the author of many books relating to Chinese thought and aesthetics. His passion for Chinese calligraphy began many years ago.
For François Cheng, calligraphy is an art that is both ancestral and very contemporary, combining writing and the beauty of the world. It is "an art of the line, a combination with a formal beauty, but also an intention, a meaning (...) Therefore, the calligrapher's gesture, which is carried out in the moment, while giving rise to objective figures, deeply translates what the artist carries most instinctive or intuitive. »
In his works, François Cheng uses rice paper and Chinese ink. He has very strong links with the city of Tours, because his wife was born here. This is probably the reason why he accepted for the first time to exhibit his most beautiful calligraphies at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Tours.
A "pocket" exhibition full of finesse and poetry, which should not be missed, until 7 January 2019.
