Visit to the Langeais castle

In the heart of the Loire Valley, the Château de Langeais is one of the architectural jewels of the Middle Ages. Formerly a military fortress and royal residence, the château is now owned by the Institut de France.
It will offer you a fascinating immersion in the history of France.

Whether you are passionate about heritage or simply curious, this visit promises an unforgettable experience.

Delve into the history of a château between war and royalty

Built under the Count of Anjou Foulques Nerra in the 10th century, the Château de Langeais has undergone many transformations over the centuries.

Under Louis XI in the 15th century, a new château was built. It would become a key place in French history in 1491, with the historic marriage of Anne of Brittany and Charles VIII.

This event marks the union of the Duchy of Brittany with the Kingdom of France and is also the subject of an animated reconstruction narrated by Stéphane Berne.

Admire the architecture of the castle which mixes different styles between its austere ramparts on the city side and its elegant Renaissance façade on the garden side.

Take part in the tours and activities to discover everyday life in the Middle Ages

The visit to the Château de Langeais is via the entrance, its drawbridge, its patrol path and its machicolations. You will then be immediately immersed in the atmosphere of the 15th century with an incredible collection of furniture and tapestries and an immersive staging.

From the large banquet hall to the royal apartments, around fifteen rooms tell the story of the life of the nobility of yesteryear.

Fun activities, such as historical reenactments and costume shows, are regularly offered to make the experience even more lively.

The Playmobil exhibition for young and old

Until August 31, 2025, the castle is hosting an exceptional exhibition: The fantastic adventures of the Middle Ages.
Through meticulously crafted Playmobil dioramas, medieval history takes on a fun and captivating dimension. A great opportunity to visit the castle with your family!

The ideal park for a walk

Beyond the castle, the wooded park offers a breathtaking view of the Loire.
You will discover lifting equipment, a treehouse and play areas. This peaceful setting invites you to extend your visit in complete serenity.
