Head in the stars at the Tauxigny Observatory

Tauxigny Observatory: a cosmic journey

No need to board a rocket to travel into space and discover our solar system.
Just go 32 kilometers from the Best Western Plus L’Artist Hôtel de Tours, to the Ligoret Astronomical Observatory and its planetarium, in Tauxigny-Saint-Bauld.
The universe fascinates young and old alike. A journey accessible to all thanks to the Tauxigny Astronomical Observatory and its Christian-Juin planetarium.

A 6-meter diameter planetarium

Discovering the universe

Your mission: look up at the planetarium’s hemispherical screen. And let yourself be guided to discover our solar system, set off to discover these planets, explore the Milky Way…
But also visit distant galaxies and reach the limits of the known universe. A dive into space and time that will take you to the surroundings of the Big Bang.

Permanent exhibition on astronomy

Designed in an educational and interactive way, the permanent exhibition under the planetarium allows visitors to go even further and discover other facets of astronomy.
Among other things, you can learn about spectroscopy, test the weight of masses on the different planets and observe the scale model of the Perseverance robot, currently on Mars.

Two hikes to contemplate the sky

Do you want to extend the evening?

The Solar System Hike circuit, a 6.7-kilometre loop starting from the Observatory, will allow you to discover each of the planets in the solar system.
And its immensity: one step on earth is equivalent to a million kilometres in space!

With the Deep Sky Hike (5 kilometres), you will follow the Échandon River to discover the history of the universe and its celestial objects.
Gas clouds, super novae and nebulae will no longer hold any secrets for you, thanks to the explanatory panels along the route.

You can also opt for a night vigil, another way to admire the sky and observe the planets and constellations, with the naked eye or through a telescope.

No doubt you will return to your room at your Best Western Plus L’Artist Hôtel with your eyes full of stars...
